I think this depends on how heavily your game leans into the action genre. Bloodborne and Sekiro moreso embrace the fast paced nature of combat with the way the core mechanics for the player works. This is different than in more slower paced games like Souls and ER, where you're not really meant to be aggressive to match your enemy's, but rather find a method to work around their aggression, like using trades, ranged combat, extended dodging. Since there's a more noticeable discrepancy of speed in those games compared to BB and Sekiro, it can feel jarring and disconcerting (at least this is how it feels to me).Personally? I'm fine with delayed attacks being a thing but only if there are other interesting mechanics that enrich combat depth like feints, techs, and other elements that the player character can employ. (9)

Like im willing to take the L here but Ive never understood why everyone complains about delayed attacks in this and souls games. As someone who fences delayed attacks and mixed up timings are fundamental skill you need to learn to do and deal with, and im sure other combat sports are similar, but when its in a game its suddenly considered cheap/unfair? The point of a delay is to bait you into making a defensive play early, and punishing you, the actual hit is still reactable it just takes some more time to learn the fight. (Just being 100% transparant Ive not specifically played wukong so i dont know if its delayed hits are well communicated, i was just commenting about the remark about delayed attacks in general.) I can really get into whole thing but simply put Dark Souls is not a combat sports like pvp game. It's a pattern recognition game disguised as one of those games that gives the player the feeling of getting better at those games l. The enemies are stronger and faster than you but predictable and stupid. Your character sucks comparatively but has a reality phasing dodge move that can exploit the enemeis simple minded attack patterns. Mixing in delayed attacks like Elden Ring did breaks that formula in a way that only hurts the combat system. And while the average player probably doesn't quite understand why on an academic level they intuitively recognize this and therefore complain. If you want to compare your fencing to a game, it would be more like something like Street Fighter or Tekken. Yes you can feint and delay and attack but there are inherent risks with that because your opponent is on your level and has many options that can punish you. When a boss in Elden Ring does it the... I'm well aware of second intention. Sekiro had this similar approach too, in addition to things in fighting games where you can essentially bait out certain reactions out of an opponent to punish them. But that said, it seems like it's more geared towards punishing rather than outright offense, right? (3)

Baiting out a punish with aggression is offense, im landing a hit, which makes the ai make a decision which i react to aggressively in a way to get more hits, yes its about punishing but its aggressively punishing rather than defensively punishing, which is more akin to letting the enemy do its thing and punishing at the end of what happens and more importantly it all started because I took the first initiative action, then we engaged in "boxing" as you put it ealier until the sequence is done and we reset to neutral. Part of what makes malenia interesting is almost all her combo extenders are proximity/ input based which a lot of people chalk up to being random, but by dodging the right way you can make her end her sequences early or bait her into attacks that are easier to parry. All this I consider offense/ aggression as youre applying constant pressure and which in ER gets you stance breaks, playing like this i was able to stagger her 4 times with a dagger, the weapon with one o... (1)

Complaints are valid. It's a 7/10 game. I get I don't have the context of Journey to the West (although I've actually read parts of it so I have more than 90% of players I'm sure) but the plot is a mess and I'm feeling directionless. Ability descriptions are straight up wrong (in English at least). Still not unfun. It's just okay.
