At Lush we minimise the use of synthetics and preservatives. We take special care to ensure we use only the safest and mildest preservatives we know. Our fresh masks are as nutritious as fruit smoothies for the face – 100% natural, totally unpreserved – they are the centre piece of our shops.

LUSH does not use microplastics in any of its products – but they still keep their sparkle! At the end of January 2013, LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics announced its decision to remove all microplastics (plastic glitter) from its products.

Where does Lush source lavender from? Lush sources lavender oils from a couple of suppliers. One is based in the warm and sunny region Provence region of France, while the other is an organic-certified Bulgarian distiller.

Our product creators work with natural ingredients and a small selection of synthetic ingredients with a safe history of use on humans.

Lush stance

This is where methylparaben is useful as it prolongs the shelf life of cosmetic products by inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi. We make fresh, handmade products, and by minimising the time between the preparation of the product and its sale, we reduce the need for preservatives.

To make a long story short: no, Lush isn't a fully organic or natural company. The brand doesn't use many organic ingredients in their products, and not every ingredient they use is natural, either. You'll find synthetic fragrances, preservatives, SLS and more in Lush products.

The most common side effects of this medicine include burning sensation, irritation, itching, and redness at the site of application and skin dryness. These are not usually serious and resolve with time. Call your doctor if these persist or bother you.

We invent our own products and fragrances. We make them fresh by hand using little or no preservative or packaging, using only vegetarian ingredients, and tell you when they were made. We believe in buying ingredients only from companies that do not commission tests on animals and in testing our products on humans.

The deeply-held values of sustainability and animal welfare have earned Lush a reputation for being uncompromisingly ethical. They won't sell their products in China because animal testing of cosmetics in mandatory in the country.

When did Lush stop using mica? ›

Since 1st January 2018, Lush stopped using natural mica in our products. Lush products (sparkly or not) use colourants and materials that are safe for cosmetics and are controlled by cosmetic regulations which stipulate safe uses and percentages.

Even though the online sample program is on hold, you can still absolutely head to your local Lush to try a sample of (nearly) anything you'd like to try. If you have any questions about the in-store sampling process, you can always call your closest Lush first to ask more.

About half of our products can be taken home with no packaging. We save nearly 6 million plastic bottles globally from selling shampoo bars alone. When packaging is unavoidable, we prefer to use recycled materials. 90%, by weight, of our packaging material is recycled and we're working on the remaining 10%.

In fact, recent additions to our ranges feature sodium coco sulfate, a great alternative that has been put to work to create a more gentle lather that won't strip the hair and skin of needed moisture while it cleanses.
