^Thanks! Added a couple I didn't know about.

Finished my night off earlier with the most epic damn thing I've ever seen! :D

^It's gonna be seriously tough to find something more pleasing than that one!

BTW, I know I'm gonna have a crazily big number of watched-movies by the time this challenge ends, but I want to gladly exclude myself from any prize that's given. I've already won enough from the previous Exploitation/Horror challenges. Let someone else take the glory! :)

Re: Fourth Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge April 1-30 2013

I've been feeling pretty "blah" the last few days with family issues and friend drama really screwing me over so I haven't been watching much. I hope to get back on track for a strong finish.

Re: Fourth Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge April 1-30 2013

I watched Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde last night, surprisingly my first blaxploitation movie of the challenge. Nice performance by Bernie Casey, but the movie had less sex and violence than it should have. Marie O'Henry is nearly naked for a medical examination for no good reason early on, but after that a story about a psychopath assaulting and murdering prostitutes and anyone else who gets in his way becomes relatively tame.

I watched Mark Redfield's Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde last week, and he seemed to understand Mr. Hyde better than anyone else that I've seen play the role. His Hyde always seems to be having fun. Bernie Casey's Mr. Hyde seemed to be going about his task of ridding the streets of prostitutes with the same sense of selfless dedication that his Dr. Pride brought to liver disease research. I assume that a major factor in this misconception of the character is that this was a late period blaxploitation movie, and there was considerable push back against negative depictions of black people in these movies. Still, a version of this story in which prostitutes don't turn tricks, steal or shoot up, and Mr. Hyde doesn't disfigure or cripple anyone for the sheer joy of it, is missing the opportunity to take the story to where it should go. Understandable when Spencer Tracy played the role, but a bit of a disappointment in the 1970s.

Just watched Bio-Dome and I got to thinking that Pauly Shore would be good for the safe list due to the quality of his movies.

I think it's his best movie too...I'm slightly ashamed to admit I love it. Bu-ddy.

I watched Cold Prey 1 +2 last night. Not sure they really fit the challenge. Just foreign horror really. Not bad though.

Umbrella Entertainment has it's Drive-in Delirium trailer compilation sets on sale for $24.99 (which works out to about $25.66 US) till the end of the month. Each set has four discs of trailers and the running time is roughly 700 minutes for each set, which means tons of exploitation, horror, and sci-fi trailers. They're all region 0/PAL. If you like the 42nd Street dvds, these are worth a gander. Burning through just one much less all of these babies for next year's Challenge would be epic.

I tried to find Rebel High earlier this month, but had no luck.

 I like Bio-Dome too but lean towards Encino Man with Son in Law running a close second. All three are guilty pleasures. Now that you guys brought up Bio-Dome I'll have to watch at least one of them (probably Son in Law as it's in the "unwatched" pile)... :D

Still on a Shaw kick, watching Sword Stained with Royal Blood. Candy Wen Xue-Er is a frickin' GODDESS.

Re: Fourth Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge April 1-30 2013

I just finished Twin Blades of Doom (1969).

I thought I had Sword Stained with Royal Blood sitting on my shelf, between The Sword and the Lute and Swordsman & Enchantress, but I don't see it. The good news is that the dvd still seems to be available.

Yesterday I watched The Sword (1980).

I can't believe I haven't seen it before now. Next year Golden Harvest should be added to the Distributors/Studios safe list.

If there are any fans of mockumentaries don't ever, and I mean ever, watch Tight about a p*rnstar rock band.

Re: Fourth Annual Drive-in/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge April 1-30 2013

Can I ask, what is the rule about the wild cards? Does anything count or just borderline choices? I'm going to fall about 3 or 4 short by the end of the month but will have seen at least 4 other movies this month including:

Brave (DVD)
Oblivion (theatre)
Jurassic Park 3D (IMAX)
Star Trek TNG: Best of Both Worlds (2 part episode combined into one feature and projected at the theatre. Tonight actually)

Can these be wild carded? I'm thinking the answer is 'no'.

Anyone else amazed at how well they restored these Abbott and Costello movies? Wow! And the effects in Meets Frankenstein were quite impressive!

Does this statement not just green light this as a must see for this crowd?

It isn't interesting, the girls are obnoxious, the acting sucks, there isn't any real p*rn going on. Nobody needs to watch it.

I really liked The Sword. I've watched quite a few Golden Harvest distributed movies in many different genres, but my Shaw Brothers viewing has been mostly Huangmei operas, comedies and romantic dramas-nothing that really fits this challenge.

I thought Shaw Bros. was on the safe list, meaning you could watch anything from them.

(I'm ashamed to say I still haven't watched any Shaw titles for this challenge--and I have hundreds on my shelf waiting to be viewed. Hopefully this weekend.)

Don't fall into that trap of DTV.

The concept seems good but always ends up being executed poorly 99.9% of the time because all the talent of the crew went into the concept of the film.

Thank you so much for the heads up. I love trailer comps and I've heard good things about these.

I probably don't use them right but I use wildcards for pace breaks to watch more mainstream things so I would have said just throw them in your list.
